The town of Lewes, known as the first town in the First State, founded in 1631, is abundant with history, state parks, white sandy beaches, The Cape May – Lewes Ferry, and a variety of dining and shopping.  Lewes is situated where the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean meet at Cape Henlopen. A small, friendly walking town, Lewes offers plenty to do within a half square mile radius.  Lewes is the most northern town of the popular shore resort areas, and is convenient to Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach.  There is public transportation to the outlets, water parks, neighboring resort towns and evertyhing else the area has to offer.

In the Cape Henlopen State Park you will find miles o beautiful beaches, nature trails and bird sanctuaries. Cast your pole off the Lewes Fishing Pier or Roosevelt Inlet or charter a boat for off-shore fishing. Lewes may be small in size, but it is large in spirit.

The town is also home to the beach area's Cape Henlopen High School Vikings and newly re-designed, state-of-the-art Beebe Medical Center.  The Children’s Beach House helps children with special needs reach their highest potential through healing qualities derived from an enriching, loving, coastal environment.  Lewes is also proud to be home to one of the best Autism and Special Needs Programs in the nation through the Sussex Consortium’s Intensive Learning Center.  Here, students ranging from ages 3 to 21 with special needs receive the attention, education and assistance they need to help them live healthy, fulfilling lives.

Downtown Lewes also boasts a newly built Canalfront Park Marina, offering boat slips, village green, fishing pier, walkways with benches and boardwalk, all overlooking the canal.  Once you visit Lewes, you won’t want to leave.
